Detailing cost by city in Ontario

Where you live moves the price about as much as what you drive.

Region Typical full detail
Toronto and the GTA $250 to $550
Ottawa $200 to $500
Hamilton and Niagara $200 to $450
London, Windsor, Kitchener-Waterloo $180 to $450
Smaller cities and towns $150 to $400

Most of the spread inside each region comes from two kinds of business sharing one label. Wash-and-vacuum operations sit at the bottom of each range, and multi-hour hand details sit at the top. Comparing quotes across that line is how people end up disappointed at both ends.

Why the price varies

Four things move the number more than anything else.

  • Vehicle size. A three-row SUV has more carpet, glass, and paint than a Civic, and takes longer. Most shops charge $25 to $75 more for large vehicles.
  • Condition. A vehicle detailed every year prices at the package rate. Years of buildup, heavy pet hair, or set stains can push a job past what a package covers, and a good detailer says so before booking.
  • What’s included. Cheap quotes cut here. A $150 “full detail” is usually a wash and a fast vacuum. Our breakdown of what a full car detail includes lists every step of the real thing.
  • Shop or mobile. A shop carries rent, and you do the driving. A mobile detailer comes to you, and with us that costs nothing extra.

Interior vs exterior: where the money goes

The interior usually takes the most hours. Vacuuming and shampooing carpet and seats, pulling out salt and pet hair, and cleaning every surface from headliner to sills is slow, physical work. The exterior carries more of the product and skill cost: the wash, decontamination, wheels and wheel wells, tar and sap removal, and the wax or sealant that protects the paint afterward.

That’s why interior-only detailing costs more than exterior-only almost everywhere in Ontario. It’s also where a cheap quote usually saves its money, because skipped interior hours don’t show from the curb.

What a $99 detail gets you

A real full detail takes a skilled person 3 to 5 hours with professional products. A $99 price can’t cover that, so the hours get cut, and you get something closer to a car wash with a vacuum. That’s fine if it’s what you wanted. Our comparison of car detailing vs a car wash covers when each one is the right buy.

Is detailing worth the money?

Car care in Ontario has gotten more expensive. In Statistics Canada’s Consumer Price Index, prices for vehicle parts, maintenance, and repairs in Ontario rose 32.3% from August 2019 to August 2026, while prices overall rose 22.7%. Detailing isn’t tracked on its own, but the trend explains why protecting a vehicle is cheaper than repairing one.

A detail once or twice a year keeps road salt off the paint and out of the seams, keeps the interior from wearing past recovery, and shows up in resale value when you sell.

Common questions about the cost of car detailing in Ontario

How much does car detailing cost in Canada?

Nationally the ranges look like Ontario’s: roughly $150 to $500 for a full detail, with big-city pricing at the top. Ontario sits near the national middle, pulled up by the GTA.

Is a full detail worth it, or should I book interior-only?

If only one side of the vehicle needs work, book that side. A full detail is worth the price when you’re resetting the whole vehicle: after a winter, before a sale, or as yearly maintenance.

How often should I budget for detailing?

Most Ontario drivers do well with one or two details a year: a spring detail to clear out what winter left, and a fall detail to protect the paint before the salt returns. At reputable rates, that’s $325 to $900 a year.

How much does it cost to have a car buffed?

Buffing out scratches and swirl marks is corrective work on the paint, so it’s priced apart from detailing. In Ontario it typically runs $150 to $500 for single-stage polishing, and more for multi-stage correction.

Why do quotes change after the detailer sees the car?

Some operators quote low to win the call and adjust in the driveway. Ask what a quote assumes before you book. We confirm the exact price before we arrive, and if a vehicle needs more than a package covers, we tell you before booking.
